Description: The Fitzpatrick Cup 2024 kicked off with a grand opening ceremony anchored by Mrs. Nisha Bhusal, the Senior School Coordinator, who set the tone for an eventful tournament. The ceremony began with the dignified lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Br. Miles, the Principal; Br. Samuel; Br. Hector; and Mr. Paul Singh, the Boarding-in-charge. Following an inspiring opening prayer, a special segment honored the coaches from each participating school, recognizing their dedication and guidance. The cultural program that followed added a vibrant touch to the ceremony. Students of Class 7A mesmerized the audience with a heartfelt song, while the Social Justice group performed a thought provoking skit on "Save Water, Save Life," highlighting the importance of environmental conservation. The students of Class 12 then brought energy to the stage with a dynamic dance performance. The highlight of the ceremony was when Br. Miles Allams officially declared the Fitzpatrick Tournament open, handing over the football to Mr. Anubhav, the Physical Education Teacher, signalling the commencement of the much-anticipated matches. The ceremony concluded with a palpable sense of excitement and anticipation, setting the stage for a display of talent and sportsmanship among the participating schools. The finals of the Fitzpatrick Cup were held on 3rd August, with hosts Goethals Memorial School facing off against St. Vincent's School, Asansol, on a rainy day. The Goethals team scored their first goal in the first half, but St. Vincent's equalized in the second half, leading to a tense penalty shootout. In the sudden death round, St. Vincent's emerged victorious. Br. Miles Allams, the Principal, closed the event by distributing participant certificates to all team members, awarding medals to the players of the host team, and presenting the Rolling Trophy to the winners, the St. Vincent's team. The tournament not only showcased remarkable talent but also celebrated the spirit of sportsmanship, team spirit and solidarity.
