Description:
On 19th August, the Social Justice Animators at Goethals Memorial School organized a one-day workshop titled ‘Building Communities that Foster Gender Equality.’ The event saw active participation from five schools—St. Helen’s School, Carmel High School, Glenhill Public School, Himali Boarding School, and Victoria Boys’ School—with four students from each school joining fifteen Social Justice Student Leaders from Goethals in engaging activities.
The workshop commenced with a warm welcome speech by Mr. Abhishek Basil Chamling, followed by a prayer led by Ms. Supriya Rai. Teachers from the participating schools were honoured with traditional Khadas as a gesture of respect and hospitality.
Throughout the day, students engaged in various interactive activities, including games, presentations, and discussions focusing on gender inequality, human rights, and the role of literature and media in advancing gender equality. Case studies and creative advocacy sessions allowed students to delve deeper into the issues and share their insights during group presentations.
The workshop concluded with a reflective session and a vote of thanks by Principal Br. Miles Allams, who urged students to take actionable steps in fostering gender equality within their communities. The event was a valuable learning experience, equipping students with the knowledge and tools needed to create a more inclusive and equitable society.
